Best Ways to Help Fire Victims in Northern California

Fire crews are making headway in California, but they still have work to do. Since the onset of the fires, there’s been an outpouring of donations via money, volunteers and items. Organizations from all over continue to receive a “generous” amount of donations, according to Pam Nold, executive assistant at United Way of the Wine Country. Due to the large number of donated items, numerous organizations stress that financial assistance is the best way to help out at the moment.

Below is a list of major organiztions to which you can donate to help those impacted by the wildfires in Northern California:

Napa Valley Community Foundation
American Red Cross (The organization is also accepting monetary donations via phone by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999)
The Salvation Army
Evacuation centers across Sonoma County are accepting cash donations
Emergency Volunteer Center
United Way Wine Country
Redwood Empire Food Bank
Disaster Fund for Mendocino County
Communication Action of Napa Valley

Animal Shelters:

Humane Society of Sonoma County
Humane Society of Napa County
Yuba-Sutter SPCA

The fires that swept through seven counties — the deadliest and most destructive series of blazes in California history killed at least 42 people. In addition to the human toll, the fires destroyed 6,000 homes. Please help if you can.
